New £294,000 European project to boost employability
The University of Wolverhampton has been awarded £294,000 (338,000 Euros) to increase international study and work opportunities for students and staff.
Erasmus+ is a European Union funded project which enables students to undertake periods of study and work experience abroad, while staff can undertake teaching or training in another higher education institution.
Students on courses including international business management, forensic science, and special needs and inclusion studies will have the opportunity to complete course exchanges for a year or semester. Meanwhile students on courses including nursing, midwifery and paramedic science students can gain valuable work experience on a placement abroad.
There will also be opportunities for students from a variety of course areas to undertake work placements abroad from between two months up to 12 months in a range of locations, including Malta, the Czech Republic, Spain and Italy.
Funding has been secured for the 2016/17 academic year and students will receive between 280-430 Euros per month towards their time abroad.
David Edwards, from Careers, Enterprise and the Workplace at the University, said: “Research shows that students who complete a stay abroad are more employable as a result of the skills and experiences they gain.
“In 2015/16, the popularity of Erasmus+ funded opportunities at the University of Wolverhampton grew massively. At present, over 130 students have undertaken work placements abroad, which is up from 57 in 2014/15, and 29 students have studied abroad, which has increased from 10 in 2014/15.
“We are always looking to grow the study options and health courses in particular have seen a massive increase in popularity amongst students.”
Erasmus+ is a European Union funded project which promotes mobility for individuals between nation states.
