University pays tribute to Sir Jack Hayward

The University of Wolverhampton has today paid tribute to Sir Jack Hayward OBE following his sad death.Sir Jack Hayward

Sir Jack, the former owner and chairman of Wolverhampton Wanderers, died on Tuesday at the age of 91. He had ‌been receiving treatment for lung cancer and died in Florida.

He took over the club in 1990, turning their fortunes around- redeveloping Molineux and achieving Premier League football.

Sir Jack was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by the University in 1994.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “Sir Jack Hayward helped put the city of Wolverhampton and the football club back on the map.

“As someone who was born and bred in Wolverhampton he had a very deep affinity and love of the city, which he retained throughout his life.

“His contribution to the area cannot be underestimated which is why he was awarded an honorary degree by the University and he will be a sad loss.

 “Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time.”
