Event to celebrate culture in Wolverhampton

29/04/2015

A celebration of different cultures featuring music, dance and traditional food will take place at the University of Wolverhampton this week.

The International Fair aims to bring together University staff and students to celebrate the diversity of cultures in the University, showcasing arts, customs and traditions.

The event will take place on Friday, 24 April from 11am-3pm at the Wolverhampton City Campus in the main quadrant and MD Building.

The University’s International Partnerships and Liaison Officer and event organiser, Susan Hazeldine said: “The International Fair is a wonderful opportunity for our overseas students to share their culture and heritage with their colleagues and tutors at the University.

“Our stall holders are excited and very much looking forward to sharing native food, drink and their traditions with everyone.”

The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Wolverhampton will be officially opening the event.

The festival will enable visitors to try dishes from different cuisines, learn more about other cultures and customs and take part in fun workshops as part of a day celebrating diversity, heritage and multiculturalism.

Visitors to the event can also take part in a series of dance and music workshops that will be taking place throughout the day.

The workshops will focus on international dance styles including Capoeira, Bhangra, Samba, Bollywood and Morris dancing.
