University joins new education trust

The Church of England Central Education Trust (CECET) brings together the University with the Diocese of Lichfield and Diocese of Birmingham.

The trust will look to develop a network of high-performing schools, teaching school alliances and leaders of education who can provide support to others, implement training programmes for teachers and create new educational opportunities for pupils, staff and governors right across the Midlands.

The University has a track record of school improvement, curriculum development and working within and managing academy trusts. As part of the new venture Education Central, the University’s social enterprise which specialises in this area, will be working in partnership with the new trust.

Professor Geoff Layer, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton said: “We are really looking forward to working closely with the Church of England as part of the new trust.

“It is a great chance to help develop a large network of schools across the Midlands by using our expertise within education, curriculum development, teacher training and continuous professional development.

“Our main thrust is to help improve education across the network and provide increased opportunities for pupils and staff.”

At the heart of CECET’s vision is a commitment to promoting high standards and enabling all members of the school community to achieve their potential.

“The University plays a key role in our strategic plans for extending professional development programmes for staff, growing leaders for the future, and encouraging excellent practice in the classroom.

“The 265 schools and academies in the CECET group will provide a rich field for original research and creative thinking, and we look forward to working with the Institute of Education on our ambitious programme of school support.”
