National report show University is committed to providing opportunity for all

Data published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) for 2012/13 reveals that the University has seen an increase in students from working class backgrounds starting degrees alongside an increase in students from low-participation neighbourhoods.

It highlights that the University has further increased the number of students who complete their course and studies.

Professor Geoff Layer, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, said: “We are delighted with this evidence of how the University provides significant opportunities to students from all backgrounds to choose from a wide range of subjects and succeed.

“The progression and graduation statistics are a testament to the hard work of our students, lecturers and support services, and will provide long term personal, economic and social benefit for students, their families, employers and the region.

“Nine out of ten of our students go into jobs or further study and we hope this will increase again this year.

“We continue to serve the region well, more students from the area are succeeding and going on to get jobs.”

Additional data will be released by HESA in July as part of the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) Survey.

This surveys everyone who has recently qualified from any university or HE college in the UK to find out what they are doing in terms of work and study.

For students leaving in 2011/12 the University saw the percentage of its graduates going into work or further study rise by five per cent to nearly 90 per cent.
