University experts to rate family support programme

10/01/2014

Members of the University’s Centre for Development and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) were selected to study the impact of new programme being run by Liverpool City Council.

It is an early-intervention scheme which aims to support families living in the Liverpool area.

The council put out a tender for an evaluation of the programme and the University of Wolverhampton’s bid was chosen, bringing with it £60,000 funding to carry out the work.

The evaluation will take place over a year, with members of the CeDARE team making trips to Liverpool, interviewing families being helped by the programme, along with those organising the scheme.

The bid has been led by Dr Michael Jopling, Reader in Education for CeDARE, along with Dr Sharon Vincent, Reader in Social Welfare for the University’s Centre for Health and Social Care Improvement.

“I think the reason we were chosen for the evaluation was because we have a strong track record of working in this area.

“We have carried out a lot of research into supporting vulnerable families and we are really happy to have been selected and it will boost the reputation of the University further.”
