New technology centre to open
The Visualisation Centre at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park features the latest developments in audio-visual technology and builds on the success of a similar Centre at the Telford Innovation Campus.
It will be officially opened by TV and radio presenter and well known technology enthusiast Spencer Kelly on Wednesday, 13 March 2013. Spencer will share his thoughts on the current and future of the world of technology to an invited audience of local business people.
Key features of the Centre, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), include what is believed to be the biggest Windows 8 screen in the UK, measuring approximately 3.5m wide by 2.5m high.
There are also 3D screens, touchscreen digital technology and an innovative touch interaction table which can be used by multiple users at one time.
The technology is spread over the five room Centre, which includes meeting rooms, video conferencing equipment and digital signage which can be customised for different organisations.
Businesses can tour the facilities to see how the technology can help them to increase their productivity. Companies are able to use the various cutting edge devices, discuss ideas with advisors who have industry knowledge and experience and explore new and innovative product ideas.
Organisations are also able to trial software that might be new to them, in a supportive environment, to identify ways in which their business may benefit from the adoption of enhanced technology.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise, Professor Ian Oakes, said: “The University has a key role in driving forward the economic regeneration of the region and an important part of this is helping businesses to find new and innovative ways to increase their productivity and competitive edge.
“The Visualisation Centre showcases state-of-the-art technology and we’re delighted to be opening this new venture at our Science Park to further develop our expert support and advice for businesses.”
The Visualisation Centre is part of the Innovation 1st project, which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Telford Visualisation Centre opened at the University’s Priorslee-based campus in November 2011.
