Gruelling triathlon to help celebrate birthday

19/03/2013

Based at the University’s Sports Centre at the Walsall Campus, 20 staff members from the Sports department are to take part in the event which will also raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice, a charity based in Birmingham.

The University is hoping that along with raising money, generous givers would also be able to donate Easter Eggs for the children based at the hospice.

The event, which starts at 3pm on Thursday (21 March 2013), will incorporate swimming, cycling and running and is due to end the next day at 12pm, concluding with all staff members together on the athletics track.

Mike Chamberlain, Director of Sport at the University, said: “The team of sports staff at the University of Wolverhampton are always on the lookout for a challenge that can raise money for charity and test themselves at the same time. I'm really proud that they will come together in this way and show commitment to an excellent cause whilst supporting the University's anniversary celebrations.”

Wolverhampton is celebrating 21 years since gaining University status in 1992 with a number of activities and events as part of the ‘21 and Proud’ campaign.

To donate Easter Eggs, members of the public are asked to hand them in to the reception area of the Sports Centre at the University’s Walsall Campus.
