Spring season line-up announced at Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre

Familiar favourites, cutting-edge new works and stars including comedian Robin Ince and dancer David Toole all feature in the programme, which aims to include something for everyone.

The Arena, which is part of the University of Wolverhampton, will also host its first ever Solo Show season, showcasing some of the very best solo performers.

The new season includes classics such as Jane Eyre, on 29 – 30 January, newly adapted by the nationally-renowned Hull Truck Theatre, and Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream on 19 March. And for those excited about the new film of Les Miserables, there is the chance to see a production based on the original book on 25 April.

A number of star names will appear at the Arena in the coming months. BBC Radio 4 favourite Robin Ince will bring his brand of intelligent humour to the theatre on 15 February and David Toole, who starred in the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony, will appear in a dance duet on 23 May. Roopa Panesar, one of the UK’s finest sitar players will appear on 18 May and Ken Lukowiak performs a one-man piece about his experiences during the Falklands War on 13 February.

The Arena will also showcase some of the best cutting-edge theatre in the UK. On 1 March, The Furies, a theatrical rock gig based on an ancient Greek tragedy, will be performed by Birmingham’s Kindle Theatre. Paines Plough, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and The Roundhouse will present WASTED, a brand new play about a group of young adults on 26 February. On 29 and 30 May Gobbledegook’s new show for families, In a Deep Dark Wood will invite the audience to take to the stage to help guide a little girl through her bewitching adventure.

Ticket prices have been kept at 2012 levels for the spring 2013 season, with tickets for most performances costing £9 Full Price and £7 Concessions. The Arena’s special ticket offer will also continue. This means that when tickets are purchased for two or more selected shows at the same time, all tickets will cost £5 each, ensuring that audiences are not only guaranteed a top quality night out at the Arena, but also fantastic value for money.

We’ve maintained our low ticket prices because we want as many people as possible to experience the thrill of live performance, and to keep coming back.”
