Kick-off for Fairtrade football contest

22/02/2013

The annual five-a-side football tournament will take place at the City Campus on Monday, 25 February 2013 from 11am to 1pm. There will be Fairtrade refreshments and prizes up for grabs.

Wolverhampton has been a Fairtrade university since 2008 and there will be a number of activities at the campuses in Wolverhampton and Walsall from Monday, 25 February to Sunday, 10 March 2013.

There will be special deals and promotions on Fairtrade food at the University’s cafes and Fairtrade wine tasting before the screening of a movie by the new film club at the Walsall Campus.

To mark 21 years since Wolverhampton gained University status and as part of the 21 and Proud anniversary celebrations, there will be an essay and story writing competition. Staff and students are being encouraged to describe what Fairtrade means to them in no more than 2,100 words for their chance to win a Microsoft tablet computer.

It’s also the University’s Open Day on Saturday, 9 March 2013 and there will be Fairtrade goods on offer to all visitors to the event at the Wolverhampton and Walsall Campuses from 10am until 3pm.

Jon Elsmore, Dean of Students and Chair of the University’s Fairtrade steering group, said: “We’re celebrating our 21st anniversary this year and we’re looking forward to linking this achievement with Fairtrade Fortnight through our essay and story writing competition.

“The five-a-side football tournament is always popular with staff and students and great fun, and there’s also opportunities to sample our tasty Fairtrade food and drink selection.”
