New forum for schools and colleges

The University of Wolverhampton’s School of Technology is spearheading the Partnerships for Progression forum with West Midlands schools and colleges.

The project aims to encourage collaboration between the University and schools and colleges in the areas of Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics, Mathematics, Architecture and Design and Built Environment.

The forum will meet three times a year and its membership includes Heads of departments in the subject areas.

Areas for collaboration include mapping out routes from Foundation Degrees, HNDs, Access Diplomas and other vocational qualifications to University courses, and exploring opportunities to develop new Foundation Degrees to support students’ progression.

The project will also encourage staff development and enable school and college staff to gain a better understanding of University courses, curriculum, placements, and career opportunities.

The new partners will sign progression agreements, which enable students at schools and colleges in the region to move onto recognised higher qualifications with the School of Technology.

The first meeting, which took place this month, was attended by representatives from 12 schools and colleges.

Professor Robert Moreton, Dean of the School of Technology, said: “I was delighted to see so many local schools and colleges present at our first event, and we are looking forward to extending the existing progression agreements with all the regional partners.

“The forum also discussed opportunities for enabling students from schools and colleges to access the School of Technology portfolio of courses, providing a seamless route from their respective school or college course.”
