Olympic recognition for research

06/01/2011

Professor Andy Lane from the University of Wolverhampton is involved in the national Emotional Regulation of Others and Self (EROS) project, which involves a team of researchers examining different types of psychology covering areas such as work, social and sports.

Professor Lane’s work focuses on the sporting aspect and this has been awarded the ‘Inspire’ mark which means it has been inspired and recognised by the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The project has also been awarded funding from the Knowing Sport scheme, which encourages researchers to promote their work within the community. As part of this, the University’s is hosting a half-day workshop which aims to improve runners’ experience by offering the latest findings from sports science and medicine.

The event will take place at the Walsall Campus on Saturday, 15 January 2011, and participants can attend either a morning session from 10.30am to 12.30pm or an afternoon session from1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Professor Andy Lane, who is leading the sports and exercise psychology aspect of the EROS project, said: “We are delighted to have received the Inspire mark, which is great recognition for our research into the emotional experience of runners.

“The workshop on January 15 is a great opportunity to introduce runners to the idea of psychological skills such as how to use music to improve performance.”

There will also be information about ‘if – then’ planning and goal setting, and there will be an opportunity for participants to experiment with tools, report back and receive feedback.
