University rated highly for Learning Resources

New figures show Wolverhampton scores 85% in this area, which includes IT and library facilities, compared with a national average of 80%. Learning resources at the University are being given a further boost with the re-development of Learning Centres at City and Walsall campuses, offering an improved service for staff, students and visitors.

In addition, Wolverhampton students felt the University had significantly helped their personal development, with a high rating of 80%, equal to the national average.

Jane Nelson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, said: “These results reflect our on-going investment and commitment to our students. We are proud of our excellent facilities and resources and are delighted that our students rate these highly.

“It is particularly pleasing to see students feel we have assisted their personal development. This section of the survey related to areas such as confidence, communication skills and problem-solving techniques, all attributes valued by employers, helping to equip students for the working world.”

The survey also revealed several high-scoring subject areas, with particularly good satisfaction ratings for teacher training, maths and statistics and performance (dance, drama and music) Performance subject areas will benefit from a move this year into the new flagship Performance Hub at Walsall Campus, which will have a further positive impact on the student experience.

Students’ Union President Ken Harris said: "The NSS is a valuable tool for students to express their satisfaction about their course, learning and teaching and their overall experiences whilst at university. We are satisfied with the overall results and will be working closely with the university to ensure that students continue to receive a high standard of teaching and resources.”

This is the seventh NSS, an annual census of students in the final year of a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications across the UK. Overall satisfaction has remained high at the University, with an average score of 77%.
