Success for student employee

04/08/2011

Ann Hayward received the National Jobshop Employee of the Year and Regional Student Employee of the Year awards as a result of her work as a student employment advisor for the employment centre at the University.

The 38-year-old was presented with a cheque and glass trophy at an awards ceremony held in Birmingham, and will graduate this September with a 2:1 BA (Hons) Interpreting (British Sign Language/English).

She said: “I am so happy and proud to receive this prestigious award. I have really enjoyed working with a great team but it has been my pleasure to meet and support so many students, watching their confidence grow and see their work skills develop through their volunteering and work experience.”

Ann, from Lowestoft in Suffolk, began her studies in 2007 and has impressed her employers and members of University staff with her hard work and dedication to both her studies and her job. Her role involved dealing with Jobshop and volunteering inquiries, promoting the benefits of volunteering whilst studying, and also supporting students in finding appropriate part-time employment.

Lynn Banks, from the University’s Careers and Employment Centre, nominated Ann and says: “Ann is a positive role model and her passion and enthusiasm has been consistent throughout her time with the University of Wolverhampton. Ann truly deserves the Student Employee of the Year Award for all her hard work and achievements during the last three years of service.”

During her time at the employment centre Ann was also awarded the Gold Award for Volunteering from Volunteering England and nominated for the Matt Spencer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering.

The Student Employee of the Year Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments.

The annual awards are coordinated by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) and aim to promote student employees in the difficult graduate recruitment market.
