University exhibits at top science festival

at the British Science Festival.

Staff and students from the University will be attending the one-day Blood, Guts and Gore: The Journey through Life event on Saturday, 18 September 2010 from 9am to 5pm.

The School of Health and Wellbeing will be demonstrating the science behind adult acute nursing, mental health and Physician Assistant Studies at the event at Aston University in Birmingham.

Meanwhile experts from the School of Applied Sciences will showcase Pharmacy, Clinical Physiology and Brain Tumour Research.

The University’s exhibition will include demonstrations using the University’s hi-tech Sim Men, which are life-like mannequins that can replicate the sorts of emergencies and ailments students will face in a real hospital.

James Pearson-Jenkins, Senior Lecturer at the School of Health and Wellbeing, said: “The events are aimed at the whole family and aim to show the impact of different health professions upon the human life cycle.

“We are delighted to be taking part in the British Science Festival, which is an excellent opportunity to highlight the work carried out by our health and science experts.”

Television's Johnny Ball, and presenter of 'Johnny Ball Reveals All' and 'Think Again’ will be giving a talk and handing out prizes at the Blood, Guts and Gore event.

The British Science Festival is one of Europe's largest science festivals, and focuses on the latest in science, technology and engineering.

This year’s event is taking place in Birmingham from 14-19 September.
