Research findings to be shared at conference

The University’s School of Health and Wellbeing will host the event at the Tilstone Suite, Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton on Tuesday, 28 September 2010 from 10am until 3pm.

The free conference will highlight findings from research commissioned by the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority into the training and learning needs of staff working with patients who have learning disabilities or mental health issues.

Professor Linda Lang, Dean of the School of Health and Wellbeing, said: “The conference will highlight findings from the research on patient care pathways in Learning Disability and Mental Health and reveals many potential training and learning needs, which will inform future health and social care education.

“We look forward to welcoming people working within the health and social care sectors to the conference."

The event entitled “Taking a Care Pathway Approach to Workforce Development” will be themed around good communication. It will include presentation of the research, its findings, outcomes and recommendations, and will also feature drama and dance by the Social Enterprise Selly Oak Drama Company and the Social Enterprise Freefall Dance Company.

The School of Health and Wellbeing was commissioned by NHS West Midlands to work, in partnership with a number of NHS Trusts, in the West Midlands to support the development of, Mental Health Care Pathways and worked with Learning Disabilities Service Users and several Trusts across the West Midlands together with the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities teams in the School of Health and Wellbeing to carry out the research.
