Followers of fashion hit the catwalk
School of Art & Design students will be holding a fashion show at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Wednesday, 9 June 2010.
The show celebrates the newly refurbished Victorian room at the Museum and several of the collections will reflect different aspects of Victorian society. The Grand Tour themed event reflects the influence the Victorian era has had on design. A Grand Tour was a traditional travel of Europe undertaken by mainly upper-class young men of means and was popular from about 1660. Level one students will open the show with a collection of summer beachwear that reflects the Victorians recreational habits.
There will also be work on show by pupils at two Wolverhampton schools, St Peter's Collegiate School and Heath Park Business and Enterprise College. The University has been working with the schools through Creative Partnerships and the Higher Education Module into Schools. Students at the two schools have worked on a gothic theme influenced by the morbid and mysterious aspect of Victorian society.
The catwalk show will feature additional collections from BA (Hons) Fashion Accessories and BA (Hons) Textiles students, and will showcase the work of our first cohort of graduates from Fashion Accessories, who alongside Textile design graduates, will present their final collections as the finale to the Grand Tour Fashion Show.
Models will hit the catwalk at 2pm, 4pm and 7pm. Entrance is via ticket only and these are available from the University’s School of Art & Design, in Molineux Street, Wolverhampton.
