New online survey for early years staff

The Centre for Development and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) has been commissioned to undertake a three-year national evaluation of early years professionals.

An online survey has been launched for people with Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) to comment on their role, career development and aspirations. The information will help to inform the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) about practitioners’ needs and future professional advancement.

Dr Tim Waller, Project Director, said: “The team of experienced researchers will also be undertaking case studies with practitioners in a range of settings such as Sure Start Children’s Centres, private, voluntary and independent day care centres and child minders in five regions of England.

“It will also contribute to the growing evidence of the role of early years professionals in improving outcomes for children.”

The research will be led by Dr Tim Waller, Professor Mark Hadfield and Karl Royle.

Early years professionals work in a wide range of roles in group settings such as nurseries and children's centres and as home-based child carers. Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) ensures that those working with children under the age of five benefit from the highest level of training.

The Centre for Developmental and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) is part of the University’s School of Education. The Centre launched last year and is based at the Walsall Campus.
