Ways to inspire students highlighted

Professor Christine Hockings will discuss inclusive learning and teaching methods in higher education on Wednesday, 28 April 2010 at 6pm.

The lecture will take place in MC001 at the Wolverhampton City Campus.

Christine Hockings is Professor of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University’s Institute for Learning Enhancement (ILE).

She said: “How we can engage all of our students to learn has been the key question driving my research and practice.

“In this lecture, I will argue that whilst there has been significant investment in enhancing university teaching, there has been relatively little research into what actually goes on in university classrooms and how teaching and learning has changed, if at all, in response to increased student diversity.”

The lecture will also explore the ways in which lecturers can create inclusive learning environments that can engage the wide range of knowledge, skills and experiences that diverse students bring.

Professor Christine Hockings was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2007 for her research and her work in encouraging the involvement of undergraduates as co-researchers in the research carried out by academics.

The 13th public lecture series is open to all and aims to showcase University research on a wide range of subjects.

Christine Hockings is Professor of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of Wolverhampton. She was a lecturer in information management and human resources for many years before moving to the University’s Institute for Learning Enhancement (ILE).
