23/09/2009

Professor John Traxler from the University of Wolverhampton has reached the finals of the Handheld Learning Awards.

The Special Achievement Award recognises the person who has had the most impact or influence in the field of learning and teaching practice with the use of mobile technologies in the past year.

Handheld technologies include mobile phones, media players, GPS and digital cameras.

Professor Traxler, who is Director of the University’s Learning Lab, said: “It's a shock and real privilege to be nominated and short-listed amongst so much talent and enthusiasm, at a time when we are finally starting to have an impact and to see results.

“We are now seeing a wider recognition amongst our community of the possibilities, approaches and challenges involved in developing and deploying mobile learning ethically and equitably, and I hope I've made some contribution to this.”

The winners will be announced at an awards party in London on Monday, October 5 2009.

John Traxler is Professor of Mobile Learning at the University. He is also Director of the International Association for Mobile Learning and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning.
