Young designers exhibit at Uni

The A-Level design show at the University of Wolverhampton gives Year 12 and 13 students the opportunity to showcase projects in areas such as product design, textiles and electronics.

This year’s show on Thursday, 7 May and Friday 8 May 2009 will feature work from students at Wednesfield High School, St Peters Collegiate School, St Edmunds Catholic School, Highfields Science Specialist School and Coppice Performing Arts School in Wolverhampton.

The University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment’s Recruitment and Lifelong Learning department will be sponsoring three £50 prizes for the best project in each of the three categories – Design and Technology, Resistant Materials and Graphics with Materials Technology.

Phil Harris, Director of Recruitment and Lifelong Learning, said: “We are delighted with the success of the last two exhibitions and glad that we are able to provide the opportunity for budding designers to exhibit their work in areas such as product design, textiles, food and electronics."

This is the third time the University has hosted such an event, which is organised with Leanne Mee, Head of Technology at Wednesfield High School. Last year 50 students exhibited.

This year’s show will take place in the Millennium City Building at City Campus on May 7 and May 8. The prize giving ceremony will take place at 7pm on May 7.
