Glass Routes from Wolverhampton to China exhibition scoops award

26/05/2009

The Glass Routes exhibition at Bilston Craft Gallery examined the role and impact of the teaching of Professor Keith Cummings on glass education in the UK and internationally.

The exhibition recently secured bronze in the Best Exhibition Large Budget category in the 2009 Renaissance West Midlands’ Best of the West Awards.

It has now moved to London and is on display at the Glass Art Gallery in Weston Street until Friday, 5 June 2009.

Dr Bryony Conway, Dean of the School of Art & Design, said: “The exhibition celebrates the ongoing and productive relationship between the University of Wolverhampton, School of Art & Design and universities in Shanghai and Beijing, through the striking glass art by their staff and students. It features the work of Professor Keith Cummings, his contemporaries and students and examines his impact and role in glass education, both in the UK and internationally, over the past 40 years.

“We are delighted that the initial exhibition at Bilston Craft Gallery has received this wonderful recognition and is continuing to build on this success in London.”

The original exhibition, held from August to November last year, was organised by Bilston Craft Gallery and Wolverhampton Arts and Museums, in association with the School of Art & Design at the University and supported by Arts Council England.
