Course to enhance skills in children’s services

The new part-time Masters in Business Administration (Integrated Children’s Services) complements the Government’s agenda to upskill directors and senior managers of children’s services in the wake of the Baby P case.

Christine Vincent, Lead for Integrated Services for children, young people and families across the University, said: “It is crucial that people working within children’s services have relevant qualifications and we have developed the course to enable senior managers within the children’s workforce to focus their skills, knowledge and reflective practice in key areas, including managing safeguarding; family law; leadership of integrated children’s services; strategic management; organisational change and transformation.

“The MBA will complement the compulsory course announced today by the Government, and offer another avenue for managers to enhance their expertise. It is now important to build confidence, both within the sector and the wider public, and we would advise anyone interested in finding out more to get in touch with the University.”

The MBA (Integrated Children’s Services) will benefit a broad range of practitioners and managers working in health, education and social services across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

The course has a balance of core MBA and Integrated Children’s Services modules and supports the University’s commitment to Every Child Matters and integrated services for children, young people and families.

The Children's Secretary Ed Balls today announced directors would be given compulsory leadership training on a new course created at the National College for School Leadership (NCSL).
