Capturing Sid’s Faces

25/03/2009

Nat Poole is a second year BA (Hons) Photography student at the School of Art & Design. Her exhibition is titled Sid’s Faces and will be open at the Lighthouse Gallery Café in Wolverhampton from Friday, March 27 to Friday, May 15 2009.

The exhibition is focused on Sid, who creates a new character for his role as the host of a nightclub in the heart of Birmingham’s Gay Village each week.

Nat, 19, from Wolverhampton, says: “As the photographer, I gave Sid the opportunity to express himself as he wished, interfering as little as possible so that he could present himself accordingly to each performance.

“As a collection, the images discover how a person can depict themselves in many forms, exploring the notion of masquerade which in turn investigates the concept of representation through performance. The images also reflect how masquerade can exude an air of strength, confidence and power within a person, allowing them to become something they may not be in their everyday lives.”

Sid’s Faces is Nat’s second gallery exhibition, following her inclusion in the West Midlands Open exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery last year.
