Uni staff support Give and Gain Day

05/06/2009

- as part of a day to celebrate volunteering.

Staff from across the University took part in national Give & Gain Day on Friday, 5 June 2009, which encourages staff to volunteer in the community.

The University was involved in two projects on the day. Twelve members of staff went to Croft Community Primary School in Walsall and helped out with gardening and demolishing a small building to transform an outdoor play area, working in partnership with AF Blakemore’s, Wolverhampton.

A group of six members of staff went to YWCA in Wolverhampton to help 16 and 17 year olds with CV writing and interview skills.

Pat Green, Active Volunteers Co-ordinator,from the University, said: “We were delighted to be able to offer our help to these two organisations on Give & Gain Day 2009. The University supports a range of volunteering opportunities in our community through Active Volunteers and all the staff who took part enjoyed giving a day to make a difference.”

The University has also been shortlisted for the West Midlands Community Impact Awards 2009 for staff volunteers involved in the Eco Kids Project in support of Employee Action on the Environment.
