Exciting new link with Sony PlayStation

29/07/2009

The University is now a member of the PlayStation Portable Academic Development Programme run by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), which provides access to professional development hardware and software tools for both staff and students.

Through the programme, students are able to gain access and use the game production tools available to commercial developers.

Wolverhampton offers a range of games and animation development and design courses at its School of Computing and Information Technology and School of Art & Design.

Stuart Slater, Director of the Institute of Games and Animation, said: “This technology platform that has been made available to us from Sony means that students can now program games and play them on their PlayStation Portable and gain valuable industry skills. We are very happy that the University will be able to make these available to students in the coming academic year.”

The University has a growing reputation in the games and animation development industry. A talented group of students won a BAFTA in this year’s ‘Ones to Watch’ category of the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards for their game, Boro Toro.
