Innovative milk packaging clinches award

01/04/2009

University of Wolverhampton student Amy Goodwin is celebrating after being named the People’s Choice winner in the Future Milk design competition.

Cravendale Milk, in partnership with the Young Creatives Network (YCN), launched the contest, focused on milk packaging for the next 50 years. Designers from across the world had the opportunity to submit designs online via Cravendale's website or through the post.

People could also vote for their favourite People’s Choice design and Amy’s innovative creation received the most votes. She was awarded a special Cravendale trophy created by the Young Creatives Network.

The 21-year-old from Stourbridge is in the third year of a BA (Hons) Graphic Communication at the University and is interested in innovative packaging development, design for the web and poster art.

Julia Chidley, Senior Lecturer Graphic Communication, said:“Amy is a pro-active student who utilises her in-depth research well. This award is an excellent addition to her CV as she will graduate this year.”

Amy’s design criteria included that the lid of the bottle can be used as a cup giving the product a secondary use and that it appeals to children, encouraging them to drink more milk. The design is also ideal for packed lunches as it is easy to store and carry around; is colour coded to make it easy to find the type of milk you are looking for and would be made from recycled materials so that it is environmentally friendly.
