Science meets art

06/05/2008
Caroline Higgins is in her second year of a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art with the School of Art & Design. The group was tasked with organising an art exhibition for a professional practice module and Caroline decided to base her artwork in cancer research.

Caroline contacted members of the University’s Research Institute of Healthcare Sciences who were happy to help her with images from their work, which will be exhibited alongside Caroline’s art.

She said: “My exhibition is called ‘Different Ways of Seeing’ and I am trying to bring out what I have learnt from meeting the scientists and looking through their microscopes.

“By including the original images, I wanted to let people see the imagery from a different source and introduce them to how different areas of study within the University can sit together.”

Dr Sarah Brown, Dr Sarah Jones and PhD students Donna Brown and Harpreet Dibra contributed images of tumour cells to the exhibition.

Dr Brown said: “Caroline has worked very hard on organising this exhibition, and hopefully it will not only promote links between art and science but will also highlight the important work being done in the field of Oncology by members of the Research Institute of Healthcare Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton.”

The exhibition will be on show at the University’s City Campus on Thursday 8 May and Friday 9 May.
