Uni and colleges sign new agreement

The Progression Agreement aims to help students working towards vocational qualifications in Construction at local colleges to progress onto the University’s Foundation Degree and BSc (Hons) programmes.‌
 
The University of Wolverhampton, Stourbridge College, Wolverhampton City College, Walsall College and Dudley College recently signed the agreement, with other institutions set to join soon.
 
Phil Harris, Director of Widening Participation and Recruitment at the University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment, said: “It is well recognised that the Construction industry needs to raise its skill levels if it is to meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive global market. The Government has also highlighted the need for collaboration between the further education and higher education sectors and this is an excellent example of how this can work.”
 
The initiative is led and sponsored by the Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull Lifelong Learning Network. The next stage will be to produce a region-wide Progression Agreement for construction students that will include all further education institutions in the Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull area together with work based learning providers. Birmingham City University is also set to join the agreement in the near future.
