The six students from the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure are taking part in BBC Three’s Upstaged event from Monday, 17 March, 2008.
They will spend six hours in the glass box in Bristol city centre, performing sketches, stand-up comedy, improvisation and music. The show uses social networking, and the online community decides which of the two acts performing gets to stay on each day.
The group, called Raving Loonies Stole My Heart, can stay on the show for a maximum of four days, but could then make it through to the grand final of the show.
The BA (Hons) Drama and Performance
students are Liam Jones, from Coventry, Rob Lane from Solihull, Ricky Huggins, from Hertfordshire, Paul Marsden, from Stevenage, Lee Goodall and Jimm Rennie, both from Walsall.
Jimm said: “It sounds like a really unusual event so we are looking forward to taking part, and hopefully people will vote to keep us in.”
Dr Ruth Shade, head of drama at the University of Wolverhampton, has tutored the students in stand up comedy. She said: "This is a really great opportunity for the students to develop their stand up comedy work, as well as their professional ambition. They need people in the Black Country and beyond to vote to keep them in. They really are talented and need people in Wolverhampton to get behind them."
