Archer Steve scoops award

Steve Prowse represented Great Britain in the 2007 International Paralympic Committee Archery World Championships in Korea in October. He won the title of World Champion in the Visually Impaired category.A University of Wolverhampton lecturer who won a gold medal at a major international competition has received a top sports award.
 
Now Steve, from the School of Education, has received the Duncan Edwards Award for sport at the Mayor of Dudley’s Civic Awards. He was presented with a coloured glass vase at a ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley.
 
Steve, 49, from Dudley, has been a Special Needs and Inclusion Studies Lecturer at the Walsall Campus since 2001 and also attended the University as a student.
 
Senior Lecturer Steve said: “I was very surprised to be nominated and delighted to have won this award. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way to win the gold medal and to thank the Mayor of Dudley for recognising local sporting achievement.
 
“I thoroughly enjoy training and competing in my sport, which I hope will be included in 2012 London Paralympics.”
 
Steve also won the gold medal at the European Championships four years ago.
