Students drum a new beat at African Nations’ Day

23/01/2008
Students will be able to sample tasty food and join a drumming workshop at an African Nations’ Day hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.

The event on Wednesday, January 30 2008 is being held to celebrate the various African cultures and countries represented at the University.

There will be free African food to try, drumming performances and workshops by Drum Love throughout the day, and an African Cup of Nations competition to coincide with the football tournament.

There will also be a debate by the University’s Student Law Society in the evening.

Jo Gittens, Director of International, said: “African Nations' Day is a way for us to celebrate the diversity of the student population at the University of Wolverhampton. We have just over 350 African students and they make a great contribution to campus life.

“This is the latest in a series of events that support the University's Internationalisation Agenda and is intended to raise awareness within both the student and staff community, of international issues and cultures. It will be a light-hearted celebration in which anyone can participate and we hope people will learn something about Africa as well.”

The events will take place in The Zone at the Students’ Union, at the Wolverhampton City Campus, from 12pm.
