Uni welcome Russian visitor

15/02/2008
Dr Gennadi Chebatoryov, the Rector of Tyumen State University (TSU) in Western Siberia, visited the University of Wolverhampton this week. He met with Vice Chancellor, Professor Caroline Gipps, and other members of staff and was given a tour of the University’s facilities.

Staff and students from both institutions have spent time with the partner during the collaboration, which began in 1990. The University of Wolverhampton also runs an innovative Masters in Business Administration (MBA), which allows TSU students to do the first half of their course in Russian and then University of Wolverhampton Business School staff visit in the second half to teach modules.

Link manager Mike Townsend, from the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, said: “In rather difficult times at a political level, both universities are conscious of the need and desire to continue the strong personal and professional goodwill which has built up over the years. An agreement was signed during the Rector’s visit to continue collaborative projects.”

Dr Chebatoryov was joined by three other members of TSU staff and they visited the University’s Schools of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, Applied Sciences and Legal Studies, and the Business School.
