Uni backs fairtrade campaign

28/02/2008
The University is applying for independent Fairtrade status, and opened a Fairtrade coffee bar at its Walsall Campus last month.

During Fairtrade fortnight, which started on Monday and runs until March 9, there will be a number of offers at the City, Telford and Walsall Campuses, to encourage people to try out the range of products which includes fruit, muffins and flapjacks.

Dr Barbara Gwinnett, Dean of the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, who is the University’s representative on the Wolverhampton City Fairtrade Partnership, said: “The University has made great strides in increasing the range of Fairtrade products. As a recent lunchtime seminar indicated, there is more progress that can be made. I hope staff and students will do all they can to support Fairtrade Fortnight.”

Fairtrade products are available at all of the University’s campuses, but the new GOEat World at the Walsall Campus is the first to only sell Fairtrade tea and coffee.
