Find a way in - it's worth it

12/08/2008

Potential students are being told not to panic if they have not yet signed up for a course, got different grades than expected or are unsure what to study, as there is still time to find a way in.

University staff will be on hand to offer advice and guidance about the Clearing process from Thursday, 14 August, 2008.

This year the University has a freephone number - 0800 953 3222*. There will be a dedicated team from the University’s 10 academic Schools to offer advice on the range of courses available.

Paul Travill, Academic Registrar, said: "The Admissions team have confirmed over 2000 places this week with UCAS, and we are really pleased with the results gained by applicants to the University of Wolverhampton this year. Inevitably some applicants will be disappointed that they have missed the required results for their chosen course, but we are often able to suggest alternatives, so it is worth giving us a ring.

"The University does still have places in a wide range of subjects and courses and my advice to anyone still thinking about starting University this September is to give our Clearing hotline a ring, or to come in and talk to us at our Open Day. "

Claire McCallum, from the University’s School of Legal Studies, came through the Clearing process to study an LLB (Hons) Law. The 22-year-old from Birmingham is set to graduate in September and says: “The University is a fantastic place and I loved it there. The advice I would give to someone preparing to go through Clearing is to make sure you have had a good think about what you want to do. Also I would say don’t be nervous – everything does work out in the end.”

There will also be an Open Day at the University’s Wolverhampton City and Walsall Campuses on Saturday 16 August 2008 between 10am and 4pm, and all would-be students and their families are invited to attend.
