Nice One, Cyrille (and Mel)
Cyrille and Mel, now both football agents, visited the University on to talk to Media and Communications students who are taking a module in Media and Sport.
Cyrille, who is also an Honorary Fellow of the University of Wolverhampton, spoke about his former career as a footballer and his current work as an agent.
He said: "It was great to be back and to give something to the students at the University where I am an honorary fellow. Who knows, maybe one day some of them will be interviewing one of my players!"
Mel added: "It was a pleasure to be invited to my home town university and hopefully impart something that might spur the students on to great things!"
Head of Media at the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, Paul Brighton, said: “Many of the students want to work in journalism, so Cyrille and Mel also looked at how sport's relationship with the media has changed over the years. We are delighted they took the time to speak to our students about their work.”
Cyrille Regis gained five England caps and played for West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City before retiring in 1996. After coaching roles he became a professional football agent with Stellar Group Ltd.
Mel Eves played in more than 300 games for Wolves, including their League Cup final victory over Nottingham Forest in 1980. He later played for Man City, Sheffield Utd and Gillingham. He now represents players with the company, Eleven Sports Management.
