Following our favourite teams in the sports pages at the back of the newspaper is a common and enjoyable leisure activity for many people.  Media analysis has been a popular area of sport sociology since the 1980s and newspapers have been described as “gossip sheets for men”.   This interactive seminar will explore print media sports reporting and some of the methods used by journalists.  Drawing on over 40 years of reporting examples we will examine three key areas:

-          Gender and reporting

-          The impact of football on cricket

-          England’s Summer of Sport 2017
