Design/Make/Compose/Play: An Introduction to New Musical Interfaces

  • When? 22 July 2020 , 18:30
  • Where? University of Wolverhampton in Stafford, Staffordshire Pl, Stafford, UK

Dr. Mat Dalgleish and Dr. Rich Hall

The earliest musical instruments date back millennia, their designs bound by acoustical constraints and evolving only very slowly. By contrast, contemporary technologies enable musical interfaces to assume almost any form imaginable -- from the hand-held to the architectural -- and produce sounds never before heard. This lecture/workshop will introduce these possibilities before helping you to make a functional musical interface of your own as a group, using the materials provided. We will explore the compositional and performance possibilities of your creation, and start to evaluate your design.
