A Pathway to Accountancy

The lecture titled "A Pathway to Accountancy" will aim to provide an insight into the role of the professional accountant.

It will discuss how we provide a pathway to the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) professional qualification, via our BA (Honours) Accounting and Finance degree followed by the MSc in Professional Accounting and Finance.

Profiles of the Lecturing Staff:

Lisa McKeown ACA, Senior Lecturer:

Sponsored through engineering degree by UK Atomic Energy Authority. Trained as Chartered Accountant with Touche Ross (now Deloittes), in Wolverhampton and Birmingham offices, working in audit and accounts preparation, up to level of Audit Supervisor. Left to join Forward Trust (part of HSBC), as Accountant – Pricing Policy, then Divisional Financial Accountant, and finally Compliance Accountant. Moved into education by teaching at West Midlands Business School, Sandwell College on variety of professional courses, including CIPS, IAM, CMI and CIPD, for five years. Returned to accounting by working as Business Manager at a school, but then moved to Tamworth & Lichfield College to teach AAT at all three levels, including taxation. Appointed to post at Wolverhampton University in September 2007. Currently teaching Digital Financial Accounting, Audit and Taxation.

Lorraine Morris ACMA, CGMA, Senior Lecturer in Management Accounting:

Eleven years' experience in industry led me ultimately to gain a position at Finance Director Level. My experience includes involvement in company acquisitions, development of an activity based costing model, introduction of responsibility accounting as well as general management accounting duties.

Eighteen years teaching experience starting off at the West Midlands School of Accountancy. I have taught various management accounting and financial reporting modules to undergraduate and postgraduate groups at the University of Birmingham, Aston University as well as the University of Wolverhampton. I have also taught in the private sector at Kaplan Financial to professional accountancy students studying for their AAT, CIMA, ACCA or ICAEW examinations.
