The ‘learning outside of the box’ research symposium on 16th October 2019 10-3.30pm focuses on intergenerational learning in the early years by thoughtfully and critically considering our current education system and exploring innovative practice. The session starts with a general and critical discussion of ‘learning outside of the box’ with Sir Alan Tuckett, Helen Lyndon and Zeta Brown (University of Wolverhampton). We will then focus the symposium on two studies that have utilized intergenerational learning in novel ways. Kay Heslop (Northumbria University) will be discussing the impact of engagement between older adults and young children in urban ‘Forest Schools’. Andrew Bainbridge and Michael Jopling (University of Wolverhampton) will also be presenting a study that introduced primary age children to older people with Alzheimer’s.
