Connective Disorder

Kayleigh Forrest is a Walsall based artist with a background in interdisciplinary material studies. Although she had been an avid painter and sculpture, she has recently migrated to film for this latest piece Connective Disorder. ‘I have found film to be a media I had previously underestimated however; I have never experienced such an emotional attachment and empathy towards a piece of work.’

The short film looks at the daily struggles of being a parent with a rare degenerative condition. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a hard subject to work with, as it is classed as a hidden condition. The level of mobility and pain changes daily, so as a parent it is hard to complete simple tasks.

The work attempts to reveal aspects of the condition and raise awareness about hidden disabilities. It also deals with a more personal connection between mother and daughter with a legacy as an hereditary condition the work addresses the present whilst also signalling cycles of pain for future generations.
