Skills for Learning run a regular programme of workshops covering a range of topics to support your studies. Below are recommended workshops that can help support a wide range of academic study skills

Improving your Presentation Skills

This workshop will help you to plan, prepare and deliver your presentations with confidence.

Preparing for Exams

This workshop will introduce you to effective revision techniques, time management strategies and other top tips to ensure that you are prepared and confident on the day of the exam.

One-to-one support

Skills for Learning drop-in sessions and appointments are for students who require additional support in developing academic skills. We will help you to identify your skills challenges, offer advice on how to study more effectively, and recommend resources or learning activities that will help you to improve your work.

Online Tools and Resources

Here you will find a range of online resources and interactive activities which can help you expand your academic study skills.

i-Skills is an interactive guide to help you with your first weeks of study and to set you up to successfully tackle your assignments. In each of the sections you’ll find plenty of information on how to get started - covering areas such as using your reading listevaluating information,referencing and planning your assignment. There are activities to help you to develop your skills, and suggestions on what to do to take them to the next level.

Skills4Study Campus is a fully interactive online resource designed to help students with essential study skills. Core modules include: Reading and note-making, critical thinking skills, writing skills, referencing and plagiarism, groupwork and presentations and exam skills.

New Students: The 'Getting Started for Academic Study' module looks at ways to ready yourself for studying at University. There is guidance on what to expect from higher education and approaches and techniques that will help you to learn effectively.

Study Skills books

Visit one of the Learning Centres to find a wide range of study and research skills books. These can help you learn to study effectively and develop your essential skills. You can find books on research methods, writing your dissertation or thesis, writing essays, assignments and reports, critical thinking and presentation skills.
