Collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

If you have applied for your visa from outside the UK, and your course is longer than 6 months, you will be given a temporary travel permit inside your passport instead of a visa to cover the length of your course. This travel permit enables you to travel to the UK and it is expected that you will pick up your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) shortly after arriving in the UK.

When should I pick up my BRP?

You must pick up your BRP within 10 days of arrival in the UK. If you do not do so, your leave may be cancelled or you may be liable to pay a fine.

Where should I collect my BRP from?

Your letter will state which post office your BRP has been delivered to, and you should collect your BRP from that post office. If it is the Wolverhampton post office, it is quite close to both the University campus and to the train station. If you have a smartphone, you will be able to access walking directions from one of the mapping applications. Alternatively, you may wish to find directions on the internet before you travel to the post office.

The address of the post office in Wolverhampton is 31 - 49 Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, WV1 1EQ.

The Wolverhampton post office is sited in the same building as a NISA supermarket, and both the supermarket and Post Office logos are above the doors

The Post Office is open from 08:30 – 17:30 Monday – Saturday for BRP collection. If your letter states your BRP will be available from a different post office, you will be able to find opening hours and branch details on the post office website here: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder

Travel to the Post Office from University of Wolverhampton campuses

Wolverhampton: City Campus

The post office is a 12 minute walk from the MX building. Please follow the directions below:

  • Turn left outside MX Building and walk up the hill (Camp Street so that MX is on your left and MH building is on your right)
  • At the top of the road turn right and walk towards the town centre. Be careful as you cross all the main roads, and keep going straight ahead past the university science block (keep it on your right)
  • Keep going straight when you get to the roundabout (Broad Street will be on your left and The George will be on your right, but you just go straight on to the traffic lights on the big crossroad).
  • Turn left at the traffic lights on the big crossroads onto Lichfield Street

The Post Office is on the left as you walk along this road.

Walsall and Telford Campuses

There are regular shuttle buses which run from the Walsall and Telford campuses and stop outside the MX building in Wolverhampton. You can then follow the directions above. For information on the shuttle bus and timetable, please visit our campus travel website here: http://www.wlv.ac.uk/study-here/student-life/campus-bus-travel/

Under 18 year olds

If you are under the age of 18, you will need a responsible adult with you to collect your BRP. If you do not have a responsible adult, several university members of staff are authorised to collect your BRP on your behalf. They will need to take your passport and BRP letter to the post office with them when they do this. Please visit your student office as soon as possible after you arrive in the UK to arrange this.
