Entry requirements for students from Sierra Leone

International Foundation Year

Holders of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, School Certificate or General Certificate of Education Ordinary with five passes at Grade C are eligible for the International Foundation Year. 


The General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels is comparable in terms of grading and equivalence to UK A levels.

Holders of the Ordinary National Diploma with a CGPA of 2.0 or above can be considered for entry to the second year of undergraduate courses.

Holders of the Higher National Diploma with a CGPA of 2.0 or above can be considered for entry to the third year of undergraduate courses. 


Students who have completed a Bachelor degree from a NARIC or government recognised institution can normally be considered for admission onto a Master’s degree.

The marking scale for Honours degrees is directly comparable to that used in the UK.

Student with a Division in a Pass or General degree can be considered for entrance to a Master’s degree. Students with a Division III would need to complete a pre-master’s course.

English Language Requirements

English language requirements vary by course and department but the standard University requirement is 6.0 with 5.5 in every component in IELTS or the same scores in the University's own entry test, the Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE).

Some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University standard requirements. For details of each programme's English language requirement please see the individual course pages.
