Foundation Programme

We offer the 4 Year integrated International Foundation Year programme which includes a foundation year and degree

The 4 Year International Foundation Year integrated degree routes in Arts; Education, Health and Wellbeing; Science and Engineering and Social Sciences are designed for international students (or for students for whom English is not their first language). This route will suit students whose qualifications fall below the entry requirements to undergraduate study and/or those whose English language level does not meet the minimum criteria.

The 4 year integrated courses prepare students in academic subjects, English language and study skills enabling progression onto most undergraduate degree courses at the University of Wolverhampton, subject to professional body requirements. Entry to these foundation programmes may require you to have studied specific subjects at high school.

Students from India wishing to pursue the International Foundation Year  at the University of Wolverhampton will need to obtain between 55-57% overall in their Standard XII examination, depending on the board they have studied with. Where a specific subject is required for entry to the degree programme, 55% must be achieved in this subject.

Please note: you only need to take a foundation programme if your qualifications are not suitable for your chosen degree.

Undergraduate - September 2024 Intake 

The University considers students for undergraduate study who have completed Standard XII Higher Secondary School Certificates (Indian School Certificate/Intermediate Examination Certificate/Higher Secondary School Certificate /All India Senior School Certificate).

We typically require students to achieve a minimum of between 60% and 63% overall in their Standard XII examinations, depending on the examination board and the intended programme of study. Some courses may state specific subjects and grade requirements. 63% from other Boards not listed here.  Where a specific subject is required for entry, 68% must be achieved in this subject. Postgraduate - March 2024 and May 2024 Intake

For entry to a postgraduate degree programme (Master's) at the University of Wolverhampton, Indian students typically need to have completed a three or four-year undergraduate degree (Honours Bachelor degree or Professional degree) at an accredited university or college. Exact requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree you are applying for and the institution you have studied at.

  • For programmes that require a UK Second Class Honours Second Division (2:2), a minimum score of 59% is required
  • For programmes that require a UK Second Class Honours First Division (2:1), a minimum score of 65% is required.

Postgraduate - September 2024 Intake

For entry to a postgraduate degree programme (Master's) at the University of Wolverhampton, Indian students typically need to have completed a three or four-year undergraduate degree (Honours Bachelor degree or Professional degree) at an accredited university or college. Exact requirements will depend on the postgraduate degree you are applying for and the institution you have studied at.

  • For programmes that require a UK Second Class Honours Second Division (2:2), a minimum score of 55% is required
  • 72% in Year 12 English (Second year marks): From the following boards: Board of Intermediate Education (Andhra Pradesh), Bihar Board, Board, Jharkhand Board, Himachal Board, Jammu & Kashmir Board, Gujarat Board and Telangana Board.
  • 70% in Year 12 English: From the following boards: CBSE, AISSCE, Maharashtra Board, West Bengal Board, Kerala Board, Karnataka Board, Madhya Pradesh Board, Rajasthan Board and other Boards

Foundation - English Language requirements:

Standard English Language Requirements - IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components or equivalent Applicants for the International Foundation Programme need to obtain 58-68% in their Standard XII English examination depending on the board they have studied with.

Undergraduate - English Language requirements:

Standard English Language requirements - IELTS 6.0 (min 5.5 in all components) Applicants for the Undergraduate Programmes need to obtain 68%-72% in their Standard XII English examination depending on the board they have studied with.

Postgraduate - English Language requirements

Standard English Language requirements - IELTS 6.5 (min 6.0 in all components) Applicants for the Postgraduate Programmes need to obtain 75%-78% in their Standard XII English examination depending on the board they have studied with.

Pre-sessional English and Academic Skills

If you need to raise your English language skills, you can attend one of our intensive Pre-sessional English and Academic Skills course Satisfactory achievement on one of these courses can be used to meet the University of Wolverhampton's English language entry requirements in place of other external language examinations.
