Entry requirements for students from Ghana

International Foundation Year

Holders of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, School Certificate or General Certificate of Education Ordinary with five passes at Grade C are eligible for the International Foundation Year.


The General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels is comparable in terms of grading and equivalence to UK A-levels.

Holders of the Ordinary National Diploma with a CGPA of 2.0 or above can be considered for entry to the second year of undergraduate courses.

Holders of the Higher National Diploma with a CGPA of 2.0 or above can be considered for entry to the third year of undergraduate courses.


Bachelor degrees from NARIC or government recognised institutions can normally be accepted for Master’s studies:

A GPA of 3.25-3.74 is considered comparable to a UK 2:1.

A GPA of 2.51-3.24 is considered comparable to a UK 2:2.

A GPA below 2.51 is considered comparable to a UK 3 and would require the completion of a pre-Master’s course.

English Language requirements

English language requirements vary by course and department but the standard University requirement is 6.0 with 5.5 in every component in IELTS or the same scores in the University's own entry test, the Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE).

Some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University standard requirements. For details of each programme's English language requirement please see the individual course pages.
