Entry requirements for students from Cameroon

International Foundation Year

Students with the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level with C grades or the Probatoire with a Pass grade would be eligible for the International Foundation Year.

IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components is also required.

Undergraduate

Students holding a Baccalauréat with a minimum score of 10/20 will be considered for entrance to a Bachelor programme.

Postgraduate

For students from the French-speaking Universities (which use a grading system out of 20), we typically consider a three year Licence, Bachelor degree, Diplôme d'Etudes Superieures de Commerce, Diplôme d'Ingénieur or Maîtrise.  The following equivalencies are considered:

  • A score of 14 to 15.9/20 or Bien is considered comparable to a UK 2:1.
  • A score of 10 to 13.9/20 or Assez Bien is considered comparable to a UK 2:2.
  • A score of less than 10 or below Assez Bien is considered comparable to a UK 3 and would require the completion of a pre-Master’s course.

For the following bilingual or French-speaking Universities (which use the 4 point GPA), a minimum score of 2.0 out of 4.0 is required for entry to the postgraduate course.  A score of less than 2.0 would require the completion of a pre-Master’s course.  The Universities are:

  • Univerity of Yaounde (1 and 2) - Bilingual
  • University of Douala (French-speaking),
  • University of Dschang (French-speaking) 

For the following English-speaking Universities, which use use the 4 point GPA, a minimum score of 2.5 out of 4.0 is required for entry to the postgraduate course.  A score of less than 2.5 would require the completion of a pre-Master’s course.  The Universities are:

  • Bamenda University Institute of Science and Technologie (BUIST)
  • Catholic University Institute of Bamenda
  • Catholic University Institute of Buéa
  • International University of Bamenda
  • National Polytechnic Bambui
  • National Polytechnic Bambui

University of Buéa

English Language Requirements

English language requirements vary by course and department but the standard University requirement is 6.0 with 5.5 in every component in IELTS or the same scores in the University’s own entry test, the Wolverhampton English Proficiency Examination (WEPE).

Some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University standard requirements.  For details of each programme’s English language requirement please see the individual course pages.

GCSE O level, grade C

University of Buea - NARIC lists the University of Buea as having English as the principal language of instruction which means this could be used as evidence of meeting the English language requirement.   Please contact International Admissions.

West African Secondary School Certificate (Anglophone, Grade C in English)

Country Specific Border Requirements

Tuberculosis (TB) certificate required.
