English Language Short Courses
The University of Wolverhampton's International Academy offers the following short courses:
International Academy's Summer and Winter Schools (English short course open to non-university students)
Our Summer and Winter Schools are designed for beginners/elementary English language learners who want to develop their speaking, listening, writing and reading skills with an emphasis on developing practical communication skills.
The International Academy is situated in the historic Priorslee Hall and offers a unique learning environment and study experience for our international students. This listed building offers teaching rooms that are bright and welcoming with modern facilities where classes are run by dedicated qualified staff.
Course content: You will receive 14 hours a week of study in an interactive group setting, covering all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Max class size: 22)
In addition, you can choose to:
Go on an organised and accompanied weekly trip to some of the U.K.'s major tourist and cultural attractions and undertake 4 hours of study in your option choice of interest:
- Art and Design
- Media and Culture
- Professional communications
Required English level: CEFR B1 or equivalent

Study Semester Abroad Scholarship
Formally known as the Study Year Abroad (UK) programme, the Study Semester Abroad Scholarship programme enables students from other universities the opportunity to study a semester in English or the academic subject in the context of a modern British university for one semester.
At the International Academy of the University of Wolverhampton, the Study Semester Abroad Scholarship students will be taught on degree courses by highly qualified staff in classes where they will interact with British and international students. They will be able to take advantage of the facilities of a modern British university while experiencing life in a cosmopolitan city at the heart of the United Kingdom.
The International Academy can also provide bespoke teaching development courses available on request

The Teacher Development Course
This 2 week residential Teacher Development course aims to develop teachers' knowledge and skills, whilst at the same time seeing and experiencing life in the UK.

IELTS Preparation course
This specially designed course is ideal for students who want to boost their IELTS score and prepare for the IELTS test (if students wish to sit the British Council IELTS test please note that the test would have to be booked individually at an independent IELTS Test Centre). The IELTS Preparation Course at the International Academy is particularly useful for those who need to achieve the levels needed for university entry in the coming academic year (IELTS 6.0 is the normal requirement for undergraduate courses).
Our staff are experienced in preparing learners for the British Council IELTS test and will familiarise learners with the strategies required to increase their scores in all four components of the test.

Occupational English Test (OET)
The International Academy is an official Preparation Provider for the OET (Occupational English Test).
The OET is an international English language test designed to assess the language communication skills of healtchcare professionals who seek to register and practise in an English-speaking environment. It is now formally recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the General Medical Council (GMC).
