Student Update: Find the support you need

Please be aware that this information was shared with students by email and correct at the time of sending. For the latest Covid-19 guidance, please visit our coronavirus webpages: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus. If you are a student who has a query or needs support, please log a helpcall with ASK@WLV in e:Vision (www.wlv.ac.uk/evision).

We have now started to welcome some of our early starter students back to Walsall Campus, and it has been fantastic to see students around campus whilst observing the safety guidance in place.

The health and wellbeing of our students will always be important to us, but especially during this time of transition. This update will provide you with more information on how you can access the support you need to help you get started this term.

The University of Wolverhampton has a wide range of support and resources to help you prioritise your wellbeing during your studies. We are working on enhancing these to make sure that whatever support you need, you can access it without difficulty both online and on-campus.

WLV Welcome and induction

It is an understatement to say the last 18 months have been somewhat different and strange. What this means is that more than ever, this year's Welcome is for everyone. You might be just starting your studies, you might have started but never been to campus, or you might have been back over the summer but can now look forward to a more 'normal' campus experience.

WLV Welcome and induction activities will start soon, with teaching due to commence for most students in the week beginning Monday, 27 September (this may be earlier for some courses).

Once you have enrolled and registered for your modules, you will be able to view the WLV Welcome Topic in Canvas. Here you will be able to access lots of helpful information ahead of teaching and the induction programme for your Faculty.

Please be aware that it may take longer than usual for someone to respond to your Helpdesk query during peak busy times, and phone lines may be engaged. We understand this is a stressful time but be assured that your Faculty Student Services team will get back to you as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience.

Further information about accessing e:Vision is available later in the update.

Timetables and enrolment

To ensure you are ready to start your studies and access your personal timetable, you must first complete your enrolment tasks in e:Vision. For more information on how to complete your enrolment, please visit: www.wlv.ac.uk/enrol-online

All students are required to enrol at the beginning of each academic year, both new and returning.

Shortly (typically within 3 working days) after you have fully completed your enrolment, your personal timetable will be available in the MyWLV app. Once you have logged in, you should select the 'calendar' tile.

Students are still being fitted to their teaching groups for some modules, so full timetables might not yet be visible - please bear with us and keep checking your MyWLV app.

You can also find more information about your timetable and how to access it on our Timetabling FAQs webpage

Accessing e:Vision

Most students will be familiar with accessing e:Vision as an applicant to the University, but it is also an essential platform for current students.

You should access e:Vision to:

  • Complete your enrolment and module registration.
  • Log a Helpdesk query with your Faculty Student Services.
  • View module assessment grades and results.
  • Access copies of official letters, i.e. transcripts or proof of council tax exemption.
  • Apply for hardship funding.
  • Find details of your personal tutor.
  • Update your personal information.
  • Apply for an assignment extension or leave of absence.

You can access e:Vision by logging in with your student number and main university password. If you are experiencing difficulties accessing e:Vision, please email: evisionsupport@wlv.ac.uk.

Digital Services

Access to IT and learning technologies will form a significant component of your educational experience. There is a set of common and core IT essentials that all students will need to access and specialist software for some courses.

Whether you are studying from home on your own device or on-campus using a University PC, you have access to all our core applications:

  • Microsoft 365 for your email, file creation and storage.
  • Canvas for your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
  • MyWLV app for central access to everything in one place (including your timetable).
  • E:Vision where you can update your details and log a Helpdesk call.

Free Wi-Fi for when you are on campus - you can set this up on your devices before you arrive by following the steps here: www.wlv.ac.uk/wifi

You can find more information about our digital platforms, including a video tour of your virtual learning environment here: www.wlv.ac.uk/its/essentials.

For help and support, you can contact the Digital Services team and access lots of self-help information on the IT Support Portal
