Changes to mental health and wellbeing support
It's normal for all of us to experience periods of anxiety, low mood or feelings of not fitting in. Getting used to university life, working to deadlines, and the pressures of workload are all expected challenges of study.
However, when such difficulties become overwhelming or start to have a serious and negative impact on our day-to-day living, this is when seeking some specialist support can be very helpful.
Our mental health and wellbeing team offers a free and confidential service to all WLV students.
Our specialist practitioners are here to help you with a wide range of personal, emotional and mental health issues.
How to access support
We have made our specialist support even more accessible.
From September 2019, any student who wants to access mental health and wellbeing support should register using our new online registration form, at: wlv.ac.uk/MHWregistration
We know that asking for help can sometimes feel a little scary - but our new online form means that you'll be able to reach out at any time of day or night, wherever you are.
The form only takes a few minutes to complete and we will get back to you within 2 working days with an offer of support.
If you, or someone you know, needs urgent support and cannot wait for an appointment, you can find information about the best sources of emergency support, at: wlv.ac.uk/needhelpnow
Self-Help Resources
We also provide a wide range of self-help resources, which now includes access to an exciting new digital service: Big White Wall.
At Big White Wall, you can:
- Join a completely anonymous, online community of members and professionals offering advice and support, 24 hours a day.
- Work through a range of self-guided courses and access online content, tests and tools. These can help you understand how you're feeling and offer techniques to get you on the road to recovery.
Visit bigwhitewall.com and register using your University of Wolverhampton email address.
Changes to Mental Health and Wellbeing support
Returning students may recall that the mental health and wellbeing team previously offered drop-in sessions and ran some social groups. In order to allow our specialist practitioners to focus their support where it's needed most, we will no longer be offering these services. But don't worry! By registering with our online form we'll ensure that you get the right support for your needs.
We recognise that social groups form an important part of student life and the university will continue to provide equivalent activities.
